Maybe it’s my scientist background, whether in wildlife management or cultural anthropology, but the question “why” is a very big part of my vocabulary. I thrive on trying to understand the reason for things, like: Why did that crazy osprey refuse to leave home? Why did he build a nest right next to his parents? Why does he sit next door to his parents and beg for food? (South Carolina) It fascinates me! I love stuff like that!
To understand the behaviour of the weird osprey, we have to look to it’s past. By all accounts - it was lazy from the beginning. He never wanted to learn how to fly. He never wanted to feed himself, and of course he never wanted to leave home. When his parents forced him out with attack after attack, he grabbed some sticks and made a home in the tree next door. To see where he lives now - we had to return to the past. (Yes, it’s a true story.)
That “why” isn’t limited to wildlife, it thankfully seeps into politics as well, and is one of the reasons I sit back dumbfounded when I see people not grasp the reality of how one thing is connected to another, creating a chain that leads to what is happening right at this very moment. There is no such thing as an isolated incident - everything is interconnected.
We look at “why” are we in Libya and not Egypt or somewhere else? “Why” is obama like a pair of dice that never gives you the same score twice? “Why” does he financially support other countries in their drilling efforts and yet bans the US from making use of our own natural resources? “Why” is he making us more dependent on other countries? “Why” isn’t he doing anything about the rise in gas prices? “Why” is he continually putting us deeper and deeper in debt and not batting an eye at it?
Just like with the osprey, to understand “why” obama, by all appearances, is trying to bankrupt the US with the insane spending. Why he’s creating more and more government jobs, making the government massive and intruding into our private lives beyond the bounds of the Constitution, etc. - we have to look to his past.
That folks is why his birth certificate is important. That is why his school records are important. That is why where he attended “church” is important, etc. The past tells us why he’s doing what he does now.
People are saying that what he did in the past doesn't matter. They believe it has nothing to do with the present. Funny, isn’t it. In trying to figure out criminal behaviour, we always look to the past. Why? Because the past is part of the interconnected chain that explains the decisions one is making in the present.
If you want to understand “why” obama is doing what he is doing - look to his past.
