Sarah Palin in the news

Her last speech as governor                                        I ran across an article posted yesterday in the Washington Post by Jonathan Capehart, “Conservatives are right to go after Sarah Palin.”  Not meaning to be picky, but from the beginning, Capehart makes a major mistake.  He says:

“I'm certainly no intellectual.”  What was Capehart trying to warn us about?  After all, “intellectual” means: “someone whose business relies on the exercise of intelligence, which engages in the public sphere to express his analysis, his views on variety of subjects and to defend values and which has a form of authority .” (Wikipedia)

If Capehart, who’s an editorial writer for the Washington Post doesn’t see himself as an “intellectual”, then what is he doing trying to write for the Post, in a position that requires you to be intelligent? hmmm....

By the way, feel free to look up “intellectual” and “intelligent” in the thesaurus.  If you do, you’ll  find the antonyms are: foolish, simple, ignorant, idiot, unintelligent, imbecile and stupid.  I don’t know about you, but I suddenly have no confidence in anything he gives his opinion on, and for this review - Sarah Palin.

It’s obvious from the start that he has no liking for Palin.   He admits she’s a powerhouse and her opinion can get people elected, but it appears he believes her influence is unwarranted.  Capehart claims she has ideas, but hasn’t explained how they can be implemented and that she’s not interested in doing so.

Capehart didn’t do his homework.  Not surprising since he’s, by his own admission, an idiot.  If he’d take a look at Palin’s accomplishments in her 2 years as governor of Alaska, he would see she has a very good plan for what she can accomplish in the USA, as a whole.

You can find a very good hub page written on Palin’s accomplishments: Sarah Palin's Accomplishments as Governor .  It lists only a few of her accomplishments.  An important one not listed, is she defeated Exxon/Mobile in court twice.  (At the end of the article the writer mentions an ethics investigation against Palin as governor.  The FBI found no evidence of any violations and she was cleared of all charges.)

Capehart applauds those who won’t bow to Palin’s popularity, which he claims is dwindling, but isn’t.

  • He thinks she wallows in self-pity and sees herself as a victim.
  • She doesn’t listen when people tell her what to do. re: Don’t get involved in the Tuscan shootings and pretend you’re not being accused of starting it.
In one area he might be right in thinking that the lack of support by the Republicans will goad her into running, but I doubt it.  She never had support when she ran for governor and she won.  I think the reason she’s holding out is for the very reason McCain warned her about when he asked her to be his running mate - it will be really hard on your family.

Palin isn’t Hilary Clinton.  Palin is a mother and wife first, and that, I think will be the deciding factor - how will it affect her family.
